Apple II GS

The IIGS of 1986 kept compatibility with the Apple II library while moving to a 16-bit 65C816, adding 4096 colours and an Ensoniq wavetable chip that gave it better audio than any Macintosh of the period.

Background

Apple’s 16-bit IIgs combined the Apple II software lineage with the 65C816 processor, a rich Ensoniq sound system, and a graphical desktop. The collection photographs show the IIgs in use, alongside the Atari 1040ST that shared its workspace.
